Merino wool

Some materials stand the test of time without ever going out of style. Extra-fine merino wool is one of them: a luxurious, natural fiber that effortlessly combines comfort, style, and durability.

Hoalen has been using merino wool for several seasons now. Our team chooses it for our sweaters as well as our more technical pieces because it does it all—it keeps you warm without making you feel stuffy, it breathes, it moves with you, and it stays beautiful through countless wears and seasons.

A fiber of rare fineness

Thanks to the strength and length of its fibers, merino wool allows for variations in weave thickness. Hoalen uses two yarns: an extra-fine yarn for our essential sweaters and a superfine knit for our chunky winter pieces. In both cases, the merino wool has an extremely soft feel, comparable to cashmere. The wool hugs the skin with such delicacy that you forget you’re wearing it. No roughness, no compromise: just a pure, silky feel.

Thermoregulatory Intelligence

Nature has endowed this remarkable fiber with a unique ability: to breathe with you. Warm when the cold sets in, cool when the temperature rises, it creates a subtle balance between your body and the surrounding air. Moisture evaporates, while heat is retained. You remain in this ideal comfort zone, no matter the season.

Antibacterial Purity

Lanolin, the natural substance that permeates every fiber, acts as a silent guardian. It repels bacteria and neutralizes odors before they even form. Our sweaters retain their original freshness, day after day, wash after wash.

Robust and durable by nature

Don’t be fooled: this softness hides remarkable strength. Merino wool is strong and resilient. It returns to its original shape after every wear, refuses to wrinkle, and stands the test of time without losing its quality. It’s a material that ages gracefully, gaining character as it loses its youthful appearance.

Choosing a Hoalen merino wool sweater is about more than just buying a piece of clothing. It’s about welcoming an authentic piece into your wardrobe—one designed to last, crafted with respect for a noble, natural material.

How do you care for merino wool?

Thanks to its natural antibacterial properties, merino wool requires very little care. After wearing it, we recommend simply airing out your sweater for a few hours, then folding it and storing it in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. The keratin naturally present in the fiber helps limit bacteria and unpleasant odors.

If a stain occurs, spot-clean it rather than washing the entire garment: a little cold water and a suitable detergent are usually sufficient.

Finally, if washing is necessary, hand-wash in cold water using a special wool detergent, without fabric softener (which weakens the fiber). Once washed, lay your sweater flat to dry to prevent it from losing its shape.
